Year 5 Transition event

transition project was set up with Year 5 pupils from the Bay Primary School and Sandown Bay Academy. The brief was to design and make a pencil holder out of two different wood based materials , MDF and Pine. Mr Page was the lead on the design section introducing the project to approximately 60 year 5 students. They had to design a front panel with a section at the top that could be cut with a saw. They also had to measure and mark out 4 holes ready to be drilled. The students then were ready to come over to the secondary school site for the practical make section of the project. This happened over 3 weeks with groups of approximately 20 students each time.
They were introduced to the technology workshop where they were shown how to use a coping saw and under one to one instruction, the pillar drill. They then sanded and added colour. The construction (joining the two pieces together) was completed back at the bay were finishing touches were also done.

Year 5 pupils were also invited to a World Cup pizza challenge –

The plan was to make a pizza based on the topical theme of the world cup and talk about International cuisine and the sort of foods that are cultural to the different countries – Italy, France, Spain, Ivory Coast & Sweden.
The students behaviour was exemplary, a real credit to the Bay and the staff. The finished products are also of a very high standard.

A Nice Day for a White Wedding…!

During the learning experience week the focus was ‘weddings through the years’ in timely connection with the Royal Wedding of Harry & Meghan last Saturday.  Today, pupils came to school in their wedding attire and held a wedding ceremony at ChristChurch!

…. and finally a wedding reception, where each year group performed a song that had been learning during the week.  We were also treated to a performance from Global Rock and Yr6 sang and danced to ‘Marry You’.  A lovely day was had by all!

Well done to our Yr6 children for completing their SATs this week.  A superb effort by all.  Staff were very impressed with their motivation and perseverance.  A big thank you to parents/carers for supporting your child at home with additional homework and preparation.   The children will have a well deserved bowling and beach trip.   A big thank you to staff who went the extra mile to allow the children to ‘Believe, Inspire and Excel’ this week.

The SATs breakfast club got through over 200 slices of toast, 10 boxes of cereal, 32 pints of milk, 100 yogurts and endless jugs of juice!!

Some pupil comments…. “Everyone has tried their best and we are looking forward to our bowling and beach trip tomorrow”….”It was epic! every child should like SATs..it’s amazing!”…”Breakfast club was useful as it helped me to calm down”….”The teachers helped us not to worry too much”..

The players:Lottie Paine, Ellie Skeldon, Tommy Minall, Lillie Bavington, Cole bax, Emily Ames, Summer Donovan

Zakiya Johnson : manager , captain , photographer , team player , report writer.

Although not getting into the finals was disappointing, this team are proud of coming third and the team work shown at the tournament.

Sports Relief Day

Our amazing children taking part in running one mile for Sports Relief! Well done everyone!

U9’s Football

On Tuesday our u9 football team continued their unbeaten league run winning 5-0 away to Broadlea in the league semi final.

The whole squad played their part in a superb team performance. The team has been training very hard on improving aspects of their game and on Tuesday it all came together. A hat-trick from George Heathfield, One from Charlie Rolfe and a super team goal and finish from George Parker Thomas was enough to reach the final.

Well done The Bay!!
Both girls and boys U9s have reached this years finals!! Parents are more than welcome to come and support our teams!!

World Book Day

What an amazing World Book Day! It was lovely to see so many children dressed up as a variety of different book characters and talk to their classes about who they were! We were all treated to a parade in the hall so that we could see each other’s costumes and creations, with excellent ideas from both children and staff. All of the children were then all shown the same book in their classes, a beautiful picture book called ‘Journey’ by Aaron Becker, and have created some wonderful art displays and pieces of descriptive writing inspired by the text.  Parents will soon have an opportunity to come into school and see the final product of the children’s hard work.

Well done, everyone!
