Last Thursday and Friday, 4LM and 4AB enjoyed some glorious weather at the river. At the Medina Valley centre, we participated in the ‘Medina Mud’ session and learnt lots while getting muddy and messy.
First, we used binoculars to look for different birds that lived along the river and discussed the food chains they would be part of. Then, we put on our wellies and searched through the muddy river bed for different animals or interesting things.
In the lab, we looked at the creatures we had found more closely using the microscope and magnifying glasses. We also used a variety of keys to identify them.
After the session, we enjoyed our lunch by the river side and then had a chance to sketch the river and what we could see. It is great to be able to link our river learning to the environment and features we have seen, and the children are now excited to find out more about rivers.
