Religious Education

At the Bay Church of England Primary School, we see Religious Education as an integral part of the curriculum and aim to see the ethos and values of a church school permeate all aspects of learning and the school community. Religious Education is taught in accordance with the Isle of Wight syllabus to ensure children are able to explore Christianity as well as having an understanding for other world religions.

We aim for pupils to value themselves and others, and we encourage them to be able to speak openly about their beliefs in a safe environment. Children have access to prayer boxes in class and enjoy writing both individual private prayers as well as prayers for sharing. Collective worship is central to the life of the school.

It not only offers opportunities for children to develop their spiritual, moral and social values but also creates a sense of community and belonging, as well as providing a time to celebrate achievements.

We enjoy close links with Sandown churches. Local clergy take weekly Collective Worship assemblies as well as visiting classrooms and inviting the school into the churches. Religious Education and Collective Worship have provided opportunities to make links with the local and wider community.

When the Watoto children’s Christian choir visited Sandown from Africa, the Bay Church of England Primary School welcomed the children, their teachers and carers for lunch. Children from the Bay visit care homes at Christmas time for carol singing and support many local and worldwide charitable events such as the Sandown food bank at Harvest time, the shoe box appeal and children in need.
