Mr Mulhern. Teacher of Music.

Once again the Inspire To Sing group competed in the Isle of Wight Music, Drama and Dance Festival. This year the number of entries was so high that the competition was split into two groups over two days. Twelve choirs competed, with The Bay taking part in the second day of the competition, which took place at All Saints Ryde on Friday 10th March. Although the choir was small, they made a tremendous sound. The two pieces chosen by the members of the choir were: The Likes Of Us, a fairly unknown Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice song and Naughty from Matilda The Musical written by Tim Minchin.

Shalfleet Primary managed to clench the first place with 89 Points, Priory School and Ryde Junior Chamber Choir came in joint second place. The Bay scored 84 points joint with Niton Primary in a very close competition. All the children that took part should be proud of themselves for the courage it takes to stand on stage and perform to a large audience of pupils and parents from other schools. Everyone commented on the pupils’ outstanding behaviour throughout the performances .

Inspire To Sing is still open to all students in Key Stage 2 and we will be learning a number of new songs over the next few months. We look forward to entering the musical festival again next year!

We have a thriving music curriculum with all children receiving a music lesson each week. A large number of children take the opportunity to learn an instrument. Peripatetic lessons take place weekly in keyboards, guitar, drums and violin although all instrument teachers are available.

In addition, all children have the opportunity to take part in a weekly singing session.

This school year has seen children perform at numerous events including the school production of ‘Guys and Girls’ where musical, acting and dancing ability was displayed by a large number of students.

In class the children will have the opportunity to learn Key Terminology, keyboard, Ukulele, African Drums, Steel Pans, Hand Bells and a variety of percussion instruments.

We will offer a range of musical after school clubs, including:
Autumn Term: Inspire to Sing & STOMP
Spring Term: Inspire to Sing & Ukulele
Summer Term: Inspire to Sing (Musical Preparation) & African Drumming.
